Frieze Art Fair - Big Rip Off, Run by A$$HOLES

Frieze loves this:

If you are in New York City this week, please don't bother going to Frieze.  It's an expensive rip off.  Save your money and read a book or go to the Chelsea galleries next week.

Basically these art fairs are just opportunities for dealers to sell art and this is why the ticket prices are so high.  They don't want 'common' people at these fairs - they want folks with dough rey me.

Furthermore, if you want to take a ferry to Randall Island it will cost you $19.    The tickets to the fair are amazingly expensive and, frankly, most of the participants are NY City galleries where you can see the work for free 5 days a week.  The foreign galleries that are represented in this fair are nothing to write home about.

Basically if you go to Frieze you are a sucker.

I'm actually a little peeved because a couple university students who like this blog wanted to go to Frieze with me (they were able to get half price student discounts).  So I noticed that as a guy who writes for an arts website (as well as this blog) I could get in for free.  It even states on the Frieze website that I can get in for free and that I can even take their stupid ass expensive ferry for free.

So I went there with proof of the fact that I write art stuff and have a significant readership and some little prick wouldn't even let me get on the ferry.  They wanted to squeeze $19 out of me.

The stupid ass said, "I can't let you on this ferry just because you have ID and proof that you write reviews...otherwise...everyone...." Then the asswipe stopped.

So I said, "Oh, then everyone who writes for a significant arts site will want to see your show and write nice things about it?  Oh, OK...now I understand why you won't let me in."

So I guess I got what I deserved for trying to get into some piece of crap bourgeois art fair.

Please don't make the same mistake I did.
